Summertime means family vacations, weekend getaways, and holiday weekends. Coming back to work after a vacation can sometimes be a struggle, so don’t make circumstances worse by returning to an office or security system in disarray. Here’s a few things you can do to make your vacation-and your return- just a little bit better.
Make Sure the Right People have the right Codes, cards, or key fobs.
If you’re usually the first in the office, you’re used to opening up shop, turning on the lights, unlocking the doors and enjoying a few minutes of quiet focus (and maybe some coffee) before the phones start ringing and the rest of the world wakes up. But if you’re leaving town, do you have someone else in line to start the day without you? They’ll need an access code or a key fob, and probably an alarm code. The last thing you want is to be on your first day off and receive a call from your monitoring company…
Speaking of Alarms, did you change the alarm contact lists?
Call or email your alarm service provider and make sure that you’ve taken your name off of the alarm contact list, and changed it to someone who will be available. Having a trustworthy person nearby is vital to maintaining an alarm system. If anything were to happen, having someone to meet police on site is a must. Plus, no one wants to get calls from the monitoring center when they’re on the beach or with family.
Be sure your system is recording, and Remote View is Available
If you don’t want to be answering calls and emails, but do want to keep an eye on things while you are away, make sure you check on your camera system a week or so ahead of time. If anything is wrong, you’re going to want to know about it before something happens and you come back to find that the recorder wasn’t storing video. Setting up remote view is also an easy process and can be done quickly with the help of a trained technician.
